This year, Grand Seiko unveiled a manual-winding version of its Evolution 9 movement for a gorgeous dress watch and a sports watch celebrating the anniversary of Spring Drive

Three beautiful dress watches, three impressive sports watches and a gem-studded high jewellery creation. These are the fine pieces Grand Seiko brought to Watches & Wonders this year. Some of them fit into the exquisite Evolution 9 collection, while others expand on the distinctive angular case design that the brand claims is inspired by its lion logo. All of the watches are designed to evoke natural landscapes and poetic concepts through colour schemes, textured dials and even movement functions. Each one is worth a closer look.

Evolution 9 SLGW002 & SLGW003

The Evolution 9 collection represents an evolution of Grand Seiko's existing design language and technical features, designed to push the brand further upmarket. Part of the Evolution 9 concept is a slimmer movement, which is always welcome, and now Grand Seiko has introduced a manual-winding movement based on the 9SA5, the new 9SA4. It is the third movement to join the platform, joining last year's Tentagraph chronograph (9SC5).

The design of this watch is said to be inspired by the brand's high-beat movements from the 1960s and 1970s. The result is a movement that runs at a frequency of 5Hz (10 vibrations per second), offers an 80-hour power reserve, and has a case thickness of just 9.95mm. The brand says that in developing this movement, they took special consideration of the winding experience, including the sound, touch, and even the appearance. When winding, you can observe the click through the caseback: its shape and action are like that of a pecking bird. These details will win over watch lovers.

It is available in two versions, one in the brand's Brilliant Hard Titanium alloy and the other in rose gold. Both models feature the birch bark textured dial that has been a hit on other models from the brand. These are some of the most striking models to date.
